Girl's Night Out

A couple of my friends were in town from California for the holidays so we decided to have a little get together last week. We met downtown at The Lion House for a yummy dinner, fabulous conversation and lots of laughter. My friend Jen brought her newborn, Aidan, who was the star of the night. Nothing like a large group of women to oooh and awwww over a baby.

The Gang

Lisa and Sarah

One of the chefs brought us this pan of amazing raspberry orange pull apart things. They were to die for!!! I think he thought if he gave us more to eat we'd be quiet and leave! It didn't work out that way though. They also brought us each a dozen rolls before we left. They were so nice and patient with us!!!

After we left The Lion House we wandered through Temple Square and gazed at the lights. It was snowing lightly- it was beautiful!!

It's amazing to me how therapeutic a girl's night out can be. I didn't even realize I needed it but I felt so much better about a lot of things when the night was over. Thanks Gals!!! Love you!!!

The Stockings were hung...

Janelle has been asking me to bring a stocking to work for the last couple of weeks so that her stocking wasn't the only one hanging on our door. I've had really good intentions but the stocking just hasn't quite made it to work. This weekend she took matters into her own hands and made me a stocking. It's purple (yay!!!) and has forks on it (she knows me so well!!!)Now do you all see why I think I have the best boss ever?!?!!?!

A striking resemblance

I seem to bear a striking resemblance to these two this Christmas season-

I'm not sure why I feel that way or how to change it but it's really annoying.

Friday, December 12

Food for Thought Friday

Do you have a real Christmas tree or an artificial one?
I have an artificial tree. It’s doesn’t require watering, it doesn’t loose its needles all over the floor, it isn’t a fire hazard and it already has the lights on it- it's a beautiful thing!

Do you give a Christmas gift to your nearby neighbors each year?
Nope. I’m a terrible neighbor!

Have you ever done the 12 Days of Christmas or had it done to you? Was it anonymous?

I haven’t ever done it or had it done to me. If you want to read a really cool 12 Days of Christmas story check out this story. It’s amazing!!!!

Midnight Snack
What time do you typically get to bed on Christmas Eve?
I’m a night owl so Christmas Eve or not I go to bed late.

Thursday, December 11

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for:

  • Wandering around Smith's Marketplace looking at everything and just being silly.
  • Little girls that get excited about decorating a tree and declare every ornament "So Cute!!!"
  • Chocolate Surprise Cake and Peppermint Ice Cream
  • The majority of the construction being done on Riverdale Road.
  • Treat day
  • TwilightMOMS- yesterday was my one year anniversary at the site. I had no clue how my life would change by finding it. So many opportunities have come my way and I have made friends all over the world because of the site and I am so thankful for it.

Caramel Goodness

No Twilight Tuesday post for me today- I'm still in shock about Catherine Hardwicke not returning to direct New Moon. I can't really even put my thoughts about it into words yet. Lisa did a great job though so if you really want to read about Twilight check out her blog here.

At work we decided that instead of giving Christmas gifts we were going to have treat day. Everyone is bringing treats tomorrow and we are just going to eat until we are sick. There will be no point totals or calorie counting. My contribution is caramel popcorn.

I started out with 1 1/2 cups of unpopped popcorn, added a few ingredients-

Get rid of the old maid's by using Bonnie's trick.

Boiled them all together

and ended up with this pile of caramel yumminess- mmmm....mmmm... good!!!

Food for Thought Friday

What is your favorite time of day and why?
I’m a night person. I’m much more productive then. I hate mornings- hate, hate, hate them!!!!

If you could find anything under your Christmas tree this year, what would it be?
A college degree

Would you want to know when you were going to die?
I don’t thinks so. I know it would be nice to be able to say goodbyes to my loved ones but I think it would be harder to live life with a specific deadline looming ahead.

Midnight Snack
If someone gives you a Christmas gift that you weren't expecting to, do you give them one in return even though you didn't plan on it?
If I can make it look like I had a gift for them all along I do. If I can’t pull that off I just tell them thank you and add them to my shopping list for next year.

Thankful Thursday

I'm going to try to continue with Thankful Thursdays even though November is over. This week I am thankful for-
  • All the birthday love I received. I was going to try to let it slip by but between my family, my co-workers and all my on-line friends that didn't work out very well. They turned what would have been a very boring day into something special.
  • My I-tunes gift cards I got from Amanda and Amanda- they know me so well :)
  • Ibuprofen
  • School being over for the semester
  • Chick-flicks (I watched quite a few last weekend and they just make me happy)

My girls

Yeah, life is good. Thanks for lunch ladies!!!
Love you!!!!

Twilight Tuesday- The Party of the Year!

On November 21st we held the biggest Twilight party east of the LA Premiere. It was at the Megaplex in South Jordan-

These were the party planners~ Team Alice~ (notice the lovely pink jackets)

These are amazing women!!! This was a completely volunteer effort with hundreds of hours being dedicated to this party. I am in awe of them!!!!
Here are just a few highlights~

The Cullen's Cars

Just a few of the Vendors

There were goody bags- lots and lots and lots of goody bags.

A few members of the cast dropped by for a few pictures ;)

There were charity drives- Alex's Lemonade Stand and the Utah Food Bank.

There was a dazzle booth (so anyone can sparkle like a vampire)

Character Look-a-likes (some of them even had topaz eyes)

There were Twilight posters for everyone.

There was so much more that I don't have pictures of- Coven Feud, Twilight Pictionary, Trivia games, the Cullen's living room (complete with a baby grand piano), and almost 1000 people watching Twilight.

It was a wild and crazy night and great memories were made. We had such a blast! We woke up the next morning with the great news that New Moon has been green lit by Summit so we will be partying again for New Moon's release. Woo-hoo!!!!

`Tis the Season

I'm in love with these Gap commercials. I can't decide which one is my favorite. I think it might be this group one although they are are pretty darn funny. (except the Dixie Chicks one- I don't like that one and there's nothing political in that I just don't think they don't sound very good in that clip)

(I know, I know- 3 posts in one Friday night- I really need a life!!!)

Just FYI~

I *heart* The Holiday.

A Day of Thanksgiving

This year I went to Logan to my aunt Shirlene's house for Thanksgiving dinner. It was kind of weird because there were no little children running around. The youngest person there was my cousin David and he's 16, so he's pretty well behaved. I don't spend much time with that side of my family so it was kind of nice to get to know them a little bit better.

I did miss the chaos a bit but after I left Shirlene's Mom and I went to Kathleen's and were entertained by Miss Piper so I did get a little bit of the kid chaos. She's such a doll!!!

Food for Thought Friday

What is the most stressful thing for you about the holidays?
The materialism- why can't it just be about celebrating the birth of Jesus and being with our loved ones?

What one quality do you admire most in others?
This one is difficult because I admire so many qualities in others. If I have to pick just one it would have to be compassion.

Do you enjoy winter, tolerate it, or detest it?
I enjoy winter.

Midnight Snack
Where is your favorite place to shop?
It depends on who and what I'm shopping for. If I'm shopping for myself (which is a no-no this time of year) I love Lane Bryant, Barnes and Noble, Target and Amazon. If I'm shopping for others I will go anywhere that has what I need. The only place I do not like to shop is stores like Cabella's or Sportsman's Warehouse- I'm so lost in places like that, it's very overwhelming.

Thankful Thursday

So appropriate that Thanksgiving falls on a Thankful Thursday. I am so blessed. Life is not without it's challenges but overall life is good.
  1. My Mom- have I mentioned that she's amazing? Seriously- my mom is the best!!! She's kind, loving, uber-patient and fun. Everyone who knows her loves her (I can only think of one exception and that person's opinion doesn't count)
  2. The rest of my crazy family- We're a bunch of loonies but we all love each other no matter what and that's all that counts.
  3. My job- How many people are lucky enough to say that they never have a bad day at work? I am so blessed to have a job I enjoy doing and to work with such wonderful friends.
  4. My cat- Only another cat lover will understand this one.
  5. My friends- the ones I talk to daily and the ones I only talk to once in a while- they make me feel important and loved.
  6. School- It's not fun, it takes up my time, and a lot of the time I really just want to drop out but I am thankful that I am getting my education (finally).
  7. Chocolate and Diet Coke- these two things are always on my list =)
Happy Turkey Day to all my loved ones, near and far! I hope your day is wonderful!!!

Twilight Tuesday

I'm still trying to gather pictures from our Twilight Extravaganza before I can post about it. I was so busy I only got a few shots so I'm hoping other people took lots of pictures. We had such a blast!!!

So while you're all waiting around on the edge of your seats for my post about the par-tay of the year I thought I'd share a little something to entertain you.

Remember how I said that I had some friends on the red carpet at the premiere? Well, they got most of the cast to wish our site a happy birthday since we're celebrating our one year birthday this week. It's so cool!!!!

At least I'm not the only one~

One of my favorite websites is Overheard in the Ward. They have hysterical quotes submitted from all over the world.

One of the quotes today was an all too familiar conversation, it's funny and sad at the same time~

RS president: So how many children do you have?
Single Sister: I don’t have any.
RS president: Well, who is your husband?
Single Sister: Actually, I’m not married.
RS president genuinely perplexed: Oh. Well. Then. What is it that you do?

How many single people have had this conversation before? I know I have multiple times. There was a time when I was offended by conversations like this one but now I actually am amused by how perplexed people really do get when you tell them that you're in your 30's and single.

Monday, November 24

I've lost my cell phone. I think it must be up on campus somewhere. I feel like part of me is missing..... I'm so pathetic! How did we survive the dark ages of no cell phones???? I'm apparently too dependent on being connected.

Thursday, November 20

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for~
  1. Diet Coke (it is how I plan on surviving the next 36 hours)
  2. My co-workers- They are so patient with me and my obsessions.
  3. Once again I have to mention my Twilight friends. I know, I know- I was thankful for them last week but because I've been pretty much breathing Twilight stuff for the last two weeks they are a huge part of my life right now. We laugh, we cry, we swoon, and we even argue but we understand each other in a way that no one else can- they just make me happy.

Twilight Tuesday- I've been dazzled!!!!!

I'm home! Of course I need to see this movie again before I can form a solid opinion (luckily I already have tickets for 2 more showings). I'm going to try and put some of my thoughts and impressions about the movie into some kind of coherent ramblings.

I'm so involved in the Twilight world that now that the moment was finally here I was a little bit scared to actually see the movie. My expectations and hopes were set so high and I was afraid that I would be disappointed. Luckily my fears were laid to rest- I really enjoyed the movie. Are there things I would change? Of course! But overall the movie was fabulous!!!

~The cast: I am so impressed!!! There were a couple of people I was a little bit worried about. Jackson most of all. I hadn't seen that moment where he became Jasper in any of the footage I had seen so I was worried. He was amazing! He portrayed that desperation to control himself to perfection! There was not one cast member that I was disappointed in. They all hit their characters dead on!

~The music: I've really enjoyed the soundtrack since I purchased it but seeing how the music fits into the movie made it even better. I wasn't a huge fan of Bella's Lullaby but now it makes me all gooey inside. I even enjoyed Rob's songs in the movie. My favorite music moment was the placement of Muse's Super Massive Black Hole. When you see the movie you'll understand why.

~The special effects: Without spoiling anything I'm just going to say that I was dazzled!!! There were a couple of really big special effects that I was a worried about and all my worries were in vain.

~The kiss.... gah!!!!! Just don't forget to breathe!!!! (seriously, it's that good!!!)

~The adaptation from the book: As with any movie made from a book there are things that were left out, things that were added, and things that were changed. You have to go into any movie expecting that. To me an adaptation is successful if the spirit of the book is present in the movie. So based on that criteria in my eyes the adaptation of Twilight was a success.

~My favorite scenes (subject to change after another viewing)
  • The Baseball scene- this was hands down the coolest scene in the movie! I was so sad when the nomads entered the field because I knew it was coming to an end. I wanted it to last longer!
  • The hospital scene (entrance of Dr. Carlisle Cullen!!!) Oh my Carlisle!!!!! I am in LOVE with him. He is my favorite character in the entire movie! *thud*
  • The scene where Edward brings Bella home to meet his family. I won't elaborate but it was funny and I loved it!!
  • The ballet scene kicked butt too! I loved the action, the emotion and the way it ends almost had me in tears.
~The cheesiness: I have to address this because it's there. Some of the lines that don't come across as cheesy in the book came across as cheesy in the movie. I know that they are classic lines so they had to be there but they did make me roll my eyes. I can say that "Hold on tight Spider Monkey" is the worst line in the whole movie.
Ok, that's enough rambling for tonight. I really wanted the movie to start over as soon as it was finished so I could see it again. I was so anxious the first time that I'm sure I missed tons of stuff.
I just have to add one more time before I go to bed- I LOVE Carlisle!!!! I know I've said it before but Peter Facinelli blew me away!!!
