Simple Pleasures

The radio station I listen to was having listeners call in this morning and tell them what their simple pleasures in life are. It got me thinking about what my simple pleasures are. This is what I came up with.

~a fountain diet coke
~realizing someone is a kindred spirit
~finding a new favorite song that just speaks to my soul
~flannel sheets
~Girl's Night Out
~staying up until some crazy hour of the night to finish a book because it's that good
~watching it snow
~a piece of chocolate surprise cake with cream cheese frosting

~sitting by the fire pit just watching the fire and visiting with loved ones
~Chili's and TGIFriday's

Confessions of a procrastinator

Very late last night I was preparing for a talk I had to give this morning. I'm such a procrastinator!! It's over now and that's all that matters. Anyway.... as I was preparing my talk Socks decided he wanted my attention~

Of course I had to play with him instead of concentrating on my talk, which made it even later. I'm exhausted! I think I'll go have a nap.

Friday's Feast

Have you ever played a practical joke on anyone? If so, what did you do and who was your victim?
I’m usually not the instigator practical jokes, I’m not that creative, but I have been an accomplice many times. I’ve got a pretty good poker face so I can pull them off pretty well. My Dad is a huge joker so I was raised on practical jokes. Some of my most favorites were when we painted the office of a co-worker of his pastel pink. He had found out that she hated pink so one weekend we broke into her office and painted every surface Pepto-Bismol pink. It was great! Another one was when Dad didn’t have a window in his office. The guys down the hall had a much bigger office that had a window. We went to the office one weekend and swapped offices. We put all of both of their desks and stuff in Dad’s little windowless office and moved Dad into theirs. It was so fun.

What do your salt and pepper shakers look like?
They are wood and have red and blue stripes on them. They match my patriotic themed dishes.

Where is the next place you plan to visit (on vacation or business)?
I’m going to St. George in March to see Nashville’s Tribute to the Prophet Joseph
and Nashville’s Tribute to the Pioneers.

Main Course
What kind of lotion or cream do you use to keep your hands from getting too dry?
I’m not too picky as long as it smells good. Right now I think I’m using J&J Soothing Naturals- smells so good without being overpowering.

Make up a dessert, tell us its ingredients, and give it a name.
I’m no good at making up recipes. I don’t like to experiment in the kitchen. I do love to cook but I must have a recipe so I can’t really make up a dessert. If I ever got that daring it would have chocolate in it.

A whole lot of shakin' going on...

I was lying in bed this morning trying to convince myself to get out of bed (this is a conversation I have with myself daily) when my bed started swaying. It was really subtle and I assumed it was just Socks moving around. Then I realized that Socks was not even in the apartment. It was an earthquake. It hit in Wells, Nevada and was apparently felt all over the Wasatch Front. I don't think I would have even noticed it if I hadn't been awake already. It wasn't strong enough to have woken me up. Quite a few people I've talked to didn't even feel it. Folks that have lived through big ones probably wouldn't have even considered this an earthquake but it was a first for me.

The Cullen's

There they are... The Cullen's in the flesh! Stephenie Meyer posted the first official pictures of the Cullen's this morning. What a great treat to wake up to!

I'm thrilled with the casting! I love Robert as Edward!! I was excited when his casting was first announced but now that I see him in character with the bronze hair and yellowish eyes I'm ecstatic!! He is Edward!

I was really worried about the casting of Alice. She is my favorite character other than Edward and Bella. If they missed the mark with Alice the whole movie would have been ruined for me. I really think that Ashley Greene looks the part; I'm going to have faith that she can capture Alice's spirit and charm.

I love the casting of Elizabeth Reaser as Esme. I'm not familiar with her as an actor but she looks like Esme does in my head, which just makes me happy.

I think that they nailed Carlisle when they cast Peter Facinelli. Doesn't he just look like a wise, compassionate soul in a 20-something year old doctors body? I love Carlisle. Who am I kidding? I love all the Cullens!

Nikki Reed as Rosalie is brilliant! You can almost feel the attitude and snobbery rolling off of her in that picture. I really want to like Rosalie. She has to have some redeeming qualities I just haven't found them yet. I keep thinking that if Emmet loves her there must be some depth in all her shallowness. I'm hoping in Breaking Dawn she will redeem herself. I have a theory that she will kind of be like Snape... you won't know she's the good guy until the very end.

I only have two complaints about the casting and they aren't even about who was cast, just about how they are portrayed in the cast pictures.

The first one is Kellan Lutz as Emmett. I love Emmett and I think that Kellan really fits the description of him. He even has Emmett's killer dimples. My issue with the picture is that Emmett is supposed to have curly dark hair and Kellan has naturally curly hair. Why, oh why did they cut his hair so short?!?!?!?

My other issue is Jasper. I think that Jackson Rathbone will be great. He's not how I pictured Jasper, but I still think he will be great. I think he looks great next to Alice which is muy importante! My issue is his hair in that picture! Hello?!?! Did they just grab some random blond wig and throw it on his head? I think that's why he's not really in focus in any of those pictures, no one wanted to draw attention to that wig. He looks like Stuart Smiley or the guy from Blades of Glory played by Jon Heder. Yuck!!!

This is Jackson as he should be....
Yes, he's supposed to be blonde but you can't tell me that in Hollywood they can't come up with a better wig or just dye his hair. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that the wig will go away before filming starts.

Ok, now I've rambled for long enough. Now we just need to know who will be playing Jacob and I can relax.

Oh and by the way... I know I'm obsessed and I'm 100% ok with that. It makes me happy. :-)

I want one!!!

I seriously had to pull over when I saw this. I had to compose myself before I could continue driving. This is why I carry a camera at all times.

Edited to clarify (because I've had several people ask): This is a blanket- one of those fuzzy ones. Can't you just imagine snuggling up with that every night?!?!!? Ewwwwww!

Happy Birthday Gee-ga!!!

The only good thing about Valentine's Day is that it's Gina's birthday. Gina and I were roomies for a long time. Then she abandoned me when she met Jamie and decided to get hitched! Now she's the mom to 5 kids and is wonderful at it! I'm sad we don't get to see each other very often but our lives are on very different paths right now. I do love the rare moments we get to share and I will always count her as one of my dearest friends!

Happy Birthday Gina!
Love you!

They know me so well....

These are e-mails I got at work today from friends and family.

These are my kind of conversation hearts!

Different views...

I love the way we all see the world in different ways. It's fascinating to me.
This is a conversation I had with my boss yesterday while we were discussing the weather forecast. It amused me greatly-

Janelle: It's supposed to turn cold again on Thursday, just in time for Valentine's Day.
Me: Well, that's appropriate, it is a cold and frigid holiday.
Janelle: I was thinking it would be an excuse to snuggle with a loved one.

It's all about perspective!

It's coming....

and there's nothing I can do to stop it. What am I talking about? Single Awareness Day aka St. Valentine's Day. I hate this excuse of a holiday.

Knowing of my hate for this "holiday" my Mom bought me this-

The UnValentine by Sam Beeson

This is my favorite passage from the book-
Exactly midway through the frigid month of February,
a day is celebrated by the dull and ordinary.
And all around me notes are passed by idiots and stupids-
Packed with sugar-mottoed hearts and naked, pudgy cupids.
This ritual, conducted under heart-shaped crimson flag,
Does absolutely nothing for me,
but to make me gag!

There are some Valentine's at the back of the book, this one is my favorite-
In the space below
Write a word
That describes Valentine's Day
And rhymes with Cupid-

I'm not bitter..... really I'm not.... ok, maybe just a bit.....

Since there is no feast today at Friday's Feast, I decided to answer this meme that Bethany tagged me with several weeks ago. (I ran across Bethany's blog a couple of weeks ago while surfing feasts.)

Here’s how it works:
~Link to the person that tagged you and leave a comment on their blog, so that their readers can visit yours.
~Post the rules on your blog.
~Share 7 strange/weird facts about yourself on your blog.
~Tag 7 people at the bottom of your post, linking to their blog.
~Let each person know by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. I hate to write with black ink. I can't explain it, I'm just a weirdo. I prefer purple, green or red. I will write with blue if I have to, but I don't like to.

2. I carry my camera with me everywhere. You just never know when you will need a picture of something random.

3. I have to check my blindspot multiple times before I change lanes. Once is just not enough. I also am paranoid about being in other peoples blindspots. I'm very careful to not drive in them.

4. I stalk blogs. I can't help it. I follow link after link and end up on complete strangers blogs. Sometime I find one I like and I go back for a daily read. Occasionally I will even comment on them, which I'm sure they think is really weird. Oh well, it entertains me.

5. I like to wear crazy socks. White socks are only good for working out. Stripes, polka dots, argyle- the crazier the better! I have 2 drawers full of socks. It's becoming a problem. I am very picky about my socks though. Not all crazy socks are created equal.

6. I sing in the car. I don't just sing, I have a concert in my car. I'm one of those people that you catch singing and laugh at.

7. I am obsessed with being connected. I check my email and news websites obsessivly. The thought of being without the internet is enough to make me nauseous. It's a sickness!

There you go.... 7 random things about me... hmmm, I'm not very exciting.

I choose to tag- no one! If you want to play, go for it, just let me know so I can read them.

In good hands....

The new First Presidency was announced yesterday. President Thomas S. Monson is our new Prophet, with Henry B. Eyring as first counselor and Dieter F. Uchtdorf as second counselor.
I have always loved President Monson. He is such a wonderful speaker. His talks are always my favorite at Conference time. It's so obvious that he is a man of God. I remember when we lived in Washington DC he came to speak to us. It's one of the first times I think I actually understood that the man standing before me was an Apostle of the Lord. I don't remember what he talked about but I remember how I felt that day.
President Eyring is another one of my favorite speakers. I always seem to be able to understand the message he is giving. Does that make sense? There are certain apostles that I seem to connect with more than others, President Eyring is one of those.
I've had the opportunity to meet President Uchtdorf a couple of times through a good friend of mine. What an amazing man.
I love how effortless the whole process has been. There is no drama, no politics. It's simply the Lord's annointed taking their postions at the head of the Church. It just reaffirms my testimony of the Church and the leadership of it.
We truly are in good hands.

Life is good!

We had a Superbowl party at our house tonight. I don't really care about football. I just watch for the commercials. This is how I spent the majority of the game. Aren't I the luckiest girl around?

What is your favorite kind of cereal?
My favorite cold cereal is Golden Grahams, but I don’t eat cold cereal for breakfast. It’s only snack food. I do like hot cereal for breakfast and my favorite is Cream of Wheat with a little bit of brown sugar and lots of raisins.

When was the last time you purchased something for your home, what was it, and in which room did it go?
I bought paper towels last night. They went in the kitchen.

What is the funniest commercial you’ve ever seen?
There are so many! The one that comes to mind is this Orbit Commercial-
