The fun never stops

What a crazy weekend! I usually live a fairly boring life without much going on. This weekend was quite the opposite of that.

The weekend started early when I took off from work early to go to the
Hogle Zoo with the TwilightMoms. Usually we have gatherings that are just us getting together without spouses or children. We thought it would be fun to have an activity that would include families. What a great time we had! We rented a pavilion and everyone brought their own lunches then we all went out into the zoo. We kind of split into little groups but we kept running into each other as we explored. It was so fun! Here are a few shots of the day-

It was very hot but luckily there was a lot of shade to sit in. I did get overheated but I stopped at a friend's house in Salt Lake after I left the zoo and the combination of the AC and the cold water she kept making me drink I was as good as new quickly.

Saturday was a full day. I did get to sleep in, which I am very thankful for. It's always a good Saturday when I get to sleep in. We had Howie's 1st birthday party Saturday afternoon. We gathered in Mark and Kathy's backyard for cake, creamies and presents. I can't believe he's 1 already! That just blows me away! He's such a cutie! Here are a few of the many pictures I took. (I always take too many!)

After the birthday party I stopped by the church and set up the Primary room for Sunday morning. Then we headed to Amanda's for Laura's bridal shower. I'm not usually a fan of bridal showers because I do not like shower games. Luckily there was only one shower game and it was a fun one. Most of the evening was spent eating, visiting, laughing and opening gifts.

Because I am a such a procrastinator I still had to prepare sharing time after I got home from the bridal shower. I popped in Pride and Prejudice (the A&E version) and started cutting out little people.

This is what my Saturday night consisted of- I really lead a wild life don't I?!?!

After surviving the chaos of Primary I came home and had a nap. It was a beautiful thing!!
After my nap I finished Pride and Prejudice and made slide shows. It's been a wild, crazy and fun weekend!!

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how career-minded are you?
I guess it depends on how you define career-minded. I’m going to school so I can move forward with my career but I wouldn’t say I was out to climb the corporate ladder so I’m going to give myself a 7.

What type of window coverings do you have in your home? Blinds, curtains, shutters, etc.?
Blinds. I really want to make some curtains but I haven’t been that motivated yet. One day I will get it done, of course I might be 90, but I will get it done!

Main Course

Apparently I'm still 12 on the inside because I couldn't resist playing MASH. I'm VERY happy with the results. (I'm not sure what's up with the really big space at the top of the MASH thing. The website's coding is obviously screwed up.)
Behold... My Future
I will marry Orlando Bloom.
After a wild honeymoon, We will settle down in Germany in our fabulous House.
We will have 3 kid(s) together.
Our family will zoom around in a Red Mercedes.
I will spend my days as a Photographer, and live happily ever after.

Twilight Tuesday

It's Tuesday again, how did that happen?!?!?

Let's get started on Twilight Tuesday, shall we?

Tickets for the Breaking Dawn Concert Series went on sale on Saturday and I have a ticket to the LA Concert!!! Yay!!! I'm so excited!!! The tickets sold out really fast so I'm really lucky that I was able to get one. I have a ticket to the show and a place to stay, now I just need to find killer fare on a plane ticket.

In the Twilight books the vehicles are very important characters. MTV has a story about Bella's truck this week. You can read about it
here. There is also a video clip of Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black, talking about Bella's truck.

Last week we finally got a close up look at the Cullen Crest. The company that designed the jewelry, Artisan's Designs, posted some more pictures of the pieces on their website. The jewelry isn't' for sale yet but I'm sure it will be soon. Here are some pictures that show off the crest well-

Good Friends + Good Food = Good Times

Last night some friends and I met at The Cheesecake Factory for a fun-filled evening. It was my first visit to The Cheesecake Factory and it was well worth the drive and the wait to be seated. The food was good, the cheesecake was sinful and the company was divine! Meg and her little one, Sarah and her little one and Jen. Thanks gals for a wonderful evening!!! We all ordered a different kind of cheesecake and then we all had to sample each others- Yummy!!!!

If you could live on another continent for 1 year, which one would you choose?
This one is easy- Europe. The challenge would be getting me to leave after a year.

Which browser do you use to surf the Internet?
Internet Explorer

On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how much do you know about the history of your country?
I really enjoy history so I’d say about an 8.

Have you ever been in or near a tornado?

When we lived in Colorado Springs there was a tornado but I was little so I don’t really remember a lot about it. When we lived in Denver the tornado sirens went off quite frequently but I don’t think one ever actually touched down.

Technology saves the day!

I was awakened at 1:45 this morning by a phone call. By the time I became coherent enough to figure out that my phone was ringing and then actually find the phone I had missed the call. I checked to see what number had called and it was listed as unknown. That made me nervous because that's how my Mom's phone number comes up. So I went back to bed but I left the phone right by my bed in case whoever it was tried to call back. Very shortly the phone rang again. It was Amanda. They were at the airport in New Zealand and apparently there was some kind of problem with Amanda's paperwork. I'm still not sure exactly what the problem was, I'll have to get the details tonight. She needed me to e-mail a copy of her US Citizenship certificate to some guy at Air New Zealand so that she could leave the country. Yikes!! So I turned on my computer, went up to the fireproof box, found the certificate, scanned it and then e-mailed it to Gary Hamilton at Air NZ. Very shortly I got a call from Amanda saying that he had received it and that it was enough to get her out of the country. Whew!!

What amazes me about this whole adventure is how amazing it is that I could simply scan a document and then send it to New Zealand and it arrived there within minutes. There was a time, back in the day, where Zeke, Amanda and the girls would have had to reschedule their flights until a copy could be mailed to them. What a blessing technology is!!

I also thought about what a blessing it is that Zeke and Amanda have a basement apartment and that I rent it. I'm sure Ben and Lyn are grateful too because they probably would have been the ones to get the call at 1:45 am to take care of the problem.

Those Pants!

After I posted this picture of my Dad I received multiple comments on my blog and in person inquiring what the heck was up with those pants. So I decided the pants needed a post dedicated to them. Here's the story behind this fashion find-

On Christmas morning my Aunt Kathleen kept calling to see if we had opened presents yet. We couldn't understand why until Dad opened the package and it contained these beautiful pants. They are Ralph Lauren corduroys. They are very nice- they just happen to have flies embroidered on them. The kind of flies that you fly fish with.

She found them at TJ Maxx or Ross or someplace like that and they happened to be the perfect size. They are $125 pants! It's scary to think that someone would actually pay that kind of money for them. I think Kathleen paid about $20 for them.

I don't think that Dad actually wears them in public. I know he wore them to dinner the first time saw Scott and Kathleen after Christmas but I hope he hasn't worn them publicly since then.

Twilight Tuesday

Book stuff-
I heard a theory about the cover of Breaking Dawn that I really liked the other day so I thought I'd share it with you all to see what you think.
When I first saw the cover I thought for sure that the chess pieces represented two different characters- Bella and Jane or Bella and Tanya. I don't know a lot about chess so I didn't know that if a pawn reaches the other side of the board without being killed that it then can become a different piece. So.... if Bella was the red pawn and made it to the other side (through whatever battles she encounters) then she can become the white queen. It could be that the battles she faces as the pawn are while she is still human or the red could be symbolic of her newborn stage. Hmmmmm..... there are so many possibilities!!!! How much longer?!?!?! (check the bottom of my blog for an exact countdown)

If you want a laugh you must check out Kaleb at
Twilight Guy. He offers a male perspective on reading the Twilight series. He's hysterical!!!

Movie stuff-
It's always a concern when a book you love is made into a movie. So many times the movie is so different from the book that it's incredibly disappointing. When I go to see a movie that has been adapted from a book I've read I try really hard to separate them from each other. I have to remind myself that this is a movie based on a book, not the movie version of the book. The folks at MTV addressed this issue in today's edition of Twilight Tuesday-

There is an article about the Cullen Crest on the MTV Movie blog. The Cullen Crest is not in the book but it's something they have worked into the movie. I actually think it's kind of cool. Just think of the merchandising possibilites with the Cullen Crest- oh my!!!
The Cullen Crest has been visible in several clips that we've seen up to this point. Of course the fandom has tried to get a good shot of it but this is the first up close and personal shot of it. The funny thing is that just the other night a few of my friends and I spent way more time than I'm willing to admit trying to pause the clips on just the right spot to get a good view of it. If only we had known that we would get it today we could have wasted that time in other ways.

Twilight Tuesday

I know you've all been waiting on the edge of your seats to see what Twilight Tuesday will bring this week- here you go...

#1 MTV has brought us Stephenie's tour dates for Breaking Dawn-
8/1 - New York City @ Nokia Theatre at Times Square
8/5 - Chicago @ Harris Theater
8/7 - Los Angeles @ Royce Hall
8/12 - Seattle @ Benaroya Hall
She will be appearing with Blue October, who's music Stephenie has said inspired her during the writing of the Twilight Series. I'm not sure how that's all going to work but I'm sure it will be cool.

Stephenie has said several times that her book tour for The Host was going to be her last big book tour. I can't imagine how physically and emotionally draining it would be to do all those signings and promotional appearances. So there only being four stops on this tour wasn't a big shocker. Am I disappointed that she's not coming to Salt Lake? Sure I am, but understand 100%. And if you think that will stop me from going to a signing you don't know me very well. I'm thinking either LA or Seattle. I'll let you all know when I decide which one to go to. I know you won't get a good night's sleep until I fill you in on that information.

#2 Barnes and Noble has posted this video from Stephenie regarding Breaking Dawn. She gives us just enough information to make the wait a little more painful.

Is it August yet??!?!?!?!!

One (Wo)Man Band

My phone rang at 7:30 this morning. When I finally became coherent enough to realize the phone was ringing I instantly had a feeling of doom. It was an accurate feeling. This was my Sunday to not do anything in Primary- no sharing time, no conducting. My non-responsibility Sunday quickly became the one-woman-band when the Primary President came down with the stomach flu and the first counselor got stuck in Idaho.
I won't go into details but let's just say that things were a little crazy at church today. I'm thanking my lucky stars for an amazing music leader and for the fact that Judy had sharing time prepared before she was struck with the flu.
The lesson I learned today? When the phone rings at 7:30 AM on a Sunday- don't answer it!

When you drink soda/pop/coke, do you prefer to drink it from the bottle, a can, or after pouring it into a cup?
I prefer to have it from a fountain. If it is cold I will drink it straight from the bottle or can but if it’s warm I have to pour it over ice.

What television show are you willing to stay up late to watch?
There is nothing good on right now. I hate summer TV.

Name one person, place, or thing you think of as brilliant.
The person who invented Skype. I don’t know who it was but whoever it was is a genius!!! I can talk to Mom in Italy for free!

Main Course
Would you be willing to work 4 10-hour days instead of 5 8-hour days in order to save gas?
Yes, although now that I work so close to home I don’t use a lot of gas getting to work. When I was commuting to Salt Lake everyday I would have definitely worked 4 10-hour days to save gas.

If you were a superhero, what would you call yourself?

If I told you that I would be revealing my secret identity and I just can’t do that.

Twilight Tuesday

Ta-da!!! It's the cover of Breaking Dawn. Isn't it cool?!?!? Stephenie has said many times that she was very unhappy with the cover art of New Moon because it was a randomly chosen flower. She has said that she has had more say in the cover art of the other books. Because we know she had a hand in designing the Breaking Dawn cover here's the question of the hour..... who does the white queen represent? Who is the red pawn??? Hmmmmm.... I'm not sure I can wait until August to find out!! Of course I don't really have a choice but to wait but it would be nice to know now!!

As promised by MTV the first completed scene of Twilight was revealed during the MTV Movie Awards pre-show. Here it is-

Now that you've watched it here are my thoughts on it (because I know you're all dying to know)-
I think that this must be peiced together. We seem to be missing a bit- like Bella's leg being broken and James biting Bella. I know that he bites her in the movie, I've seen still photos of the bite, so when does that happen? I also know Bella ends up in the hospital in the movie and she's obviously not beaten up badly enough in this clip to need to be hospitalized, so I think we're missing parts here.
I am amazed at how much Robert Pattinson has become Edward. That moment where he looks at Bella- there is so much said in that brief second of eye contact. He somehow manages to convey sorrow, panic, love, anger, and hunger all at once. I'm amazed!!! This movie is going to be good!!

Manic Monday

I woke up this morning with a lovely allergy induced sinus headache. I popped a couple of these babies and crawled back in bed.
After giving the Tylenol Sinus ample time to work it's magic I got back out of bed. I showered and then went into the living room to dry my hair. (I know it's weird that I blow dry my hair in the living room but my bathroom gets too hot if I blow dry it there.) As I stepped over to where my hair dryer was laying my feet squished into the carpet. I say they squished because that is the noise that was made when the water was pushed out of the carpet. Ummmm... not good!!

Now this is not the first time I've had water in my apartment. I live in a basement apartment so it's not that unusual. What was unusual was where in the apartment it was. It's always been in the back hallway before not in the living room. I couldn't see where the water was coming in so I did what every other single girl would do- called for reinforcements! Since Zeke and Amanda are on the other side of the world in New Zealand (great timing guys!) I called Ben for help. Thank goodness he works nights so he was home during the day. While I was waiting for him to come over I broke out the Shop-Vac and started sucking up some of the water.

When Ben got here he ripped up the carpet to see if he could figure out where the water was coming from. He couldn't pinpoint the source of the deluge so he called his Dad for back-up.

As we were waiting for Mark I told Ben that I had watered the lawn last night according to the watering schedule that Amanda left for me. He thought maybe that was the problem so he turned the sprinklers on- sure enough water started gushing in. Mystery solved!! He and Mark replaced the sprinkler head and all is well. My heroes!!! Thanks guys for rescuing this damsel in distress!!!

What do you all think of my new living room arrangement? I'm thinking about changing my major to interior design.
