This week I'm thankful for good friends. I am such a lucky girl to have these amazing women in my life! Thanks for a great night gals! Love you!

What a compliment!

I had an amazing English teacher this semester. She came highly recommended by Ben and Lyn so I registered for her class and found a kindred spirit. She's British, sassy, opinionated and brilliant! I actually enjoyed going to her 8:00 class. I learned so much more than writing in her class.

I e-mailed her about an assignment the other day and added a simple thank you for a great semester note at the end of the e-mail. This was her response-
"Thanks for being the sensible student who gave me the courage to keep teaching."

WOW! I was humbled by her comment. I guess I hadn't thought about how greatly the students effect the teacher. I'm going to be a lot more aware of my presence in a classroom and what I'm contributing to the class environment.

Beyond belief talent

Yes, I'm still obsessing over Blue October.

The violinist for Blue October is named Ryan Delahoussaye and I am in awe of him. During the concert I saw him holding a violin under his chin, playing the mandolin and keyboards at the same time and singing back-up. I could have watched him all night. I can't even begin to put into words how talented he is. I've done a little research and it turns out that he's classically trained and plays the violin, mandolin, viola, keyboards, tambourine, vocals and I even saw him play a xylophone during Blue Does. After having seen him work his magic live I'm much more aware of his amazing presence on every Blue October track.

I've tried to find a clip that shows the unbelievable talent of Ryan and I finally tracked one down. This is PRN from Argue with a Tree. It's not the best quality but it is the best one I could find. And yes, he does have horns (they are not there anymore- he has a full head of hair).... just ignore that little trait and be awed by his talent.

Musical Monday

I'm still riding high from the Blue October concert last week so of course today's Musical Monday is one of their songs. I actually had a different song in mind for today's post but as I was driving home from work the sun was shining and the sky was bright blue and this song was playing on my I-pod and so now it's stuck in my head- it's called Blue Skies.

I first heard this performed at the Breaking Dawn concert in LA. It's such a great song, it just makes me happy when I hear it.
This is what Justin had to say about Blue Skies-
"Blue Skies, also for my daughter. Being a dad is weird and it's amazing. Cause if you're not with them, miss them like nothing else. And Blue Skies is my normal, you know, approaching normal, it all ends with Blue. She brings me to where I am now, losing weight, getting healthy, slowing down the drinking, really talking to my shrink and stuff a lot. And just trying to stay as healthy as possible, so I can be the best role model for her possible ... I remember, I was on the road with Stephenie Meyer, and I played that song for her and she was like, 'oh my god, I'm gonna cry!" And that's when I knew because Stephenie Meyer was a mother also, of three, and she is such an amazing lady and a good friend. We really hit it off, and it was the first person I got to talk to that had a baby. And that was my age. So we connected big time, and she thought that Blue Skies was just amazing. So I look at blue, I think about Blue when I play that, and it's just, I wanna dance with her. I wanna pick her and just dance. And it's my happy song. It's for her."
-Justin, 2009

Blue October, Baby!!!

Tuesday night was the long awaited Blue October concert. Amy got there super early and staked us a prime spot in the very front of the line so once I got there all we had to do was wait. (She also snagged a meet & greet with them- lucky girl!) We hung out for a couple of hours in the line and chatted with the people in the line. The line got pretty long because the concert was sold out. It went all the way down the block-

Luckily we were at the beginning of it!!!

Shelly, Christy, Amy and I

Once they opened the doors we claimed our spot right by the stage.

Look how close we were!!!!!! Squeeeeeeeee!!!

The opening act was a group called Ours. They were ok. I won't be buying the CD but I've heard worse. I always feel bad for opening acts. They have to know that they are not the reason we are there and that we're just tolerating them until the main act takes the stage. I was really glad when they left the stage and the stage transformed into this-

Did I mention that we were really close?!?!
Here are just a few shots from the show. Some of them I took and some of them are from Christy.

Justin, Justin, Justin!!!I can not believe what an amazing concert it was!! I am blown away! The whole band is super talented- WOW!!!!!! I was in awe of them.

Justin was a phenomenal performer. He was one of those performers that you just can't take your eyes off of. He draws you in and makes you feel every emotion that went into writing and performing the song. It was beyond description. It honestly was the best concert I have ever been to.

I'm thinking about becoming a groupie...

Best Concert EVER!!!!

I'm still gathering pictures so I can write a post about last night's concert. It was an amazing night!!!!

While you're all waiting on pins and needles for my concert report I thought I'd share one of my favorite songs of Blue October's new album, Approaching Normal. It's called Jump Rope. This song was written for Justin's little girl and it's a perfect guide to life.

Remember how you used to say
You couldn't wait till tomorrow for a brand new day
And no fuss when you had to ride the bus
You just add a little blush
To paralyze your school crush
Now you're older and the weight is on your shoulder
Make the world a little colder
No more hidin' in the old day
Be strong, don't give up hope
It will get hard

Life's like a jump rope

Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
Cause it will get hard
Remember, life's like a jump rope
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
It will get hard
Cause it will get hard

There'll be a bump there will be a bruise

There'll be alarms and there will be a snooze
There'll be a path that you will have to choose
There'll be a win and there will be a lose
And you gotta hold your head up high and
Watch all the negative a-go by
Don't ever be ashamed to cry
You go ahead!

Cause life's like a jump rope

Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
It will get hard
Remember, life's like a jump rope
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
It will get hard
Come on, woo!

I want to tell you that everything will be okay
That everything will eventually turn itself to gold
So keep pushing through it all
Don't follow, lead the way
Don't lose yourself or your hope

Cause life's like a jump rope(Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah)

You stomp your feet so hard you make it pound
Raise you back up to the top
And now we're never coming down
Up down, stop your feet spinning round
Clap hands to the rhythm and you slip down
Stomp your feet so hard you make it pound
Raise you back up to the top
And now we're never coming down

Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
It will get hard
Remember, life's like a jump rope
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
It will get hard
Cause it will get hard(Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah)
Life's like a jump rope
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yeah
Woah, cause life's like a jump rope

Here's a video of Jump Rope from the Las Vegas concert~
