Just a Reminder...

"You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you're part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters." ~To Write Love On Her Arms

Opinions Needed!

I recently made a comment about hating Nicholas Sparks books and movies. This comment has caused several of my friends to give me a hard time. I'm pretty sure the word heartless has been thrown around. (How rude! I much prefer cynical or bitter.)

Here's my issue with Nicholas Sparks. He is too obvious with his sap. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sap. Chick flicks and Chick Lit are very high up on my list of favorite ways to spend my time. But I prefer to be touched by a movie or book in an unexpected way. I want the sap to be a little more subtle. Nicholas Sparks books are all the same- the couple meet through some unexpected, difficult circumstance, they fall head over heels in love and then one of them dies. It is always the same. I know that not every story has a happy ending (Trust me, I am very aware of that fact.) so that is not my issue with his stories. I think it's just because he works too hard to make you cry.

I don't think I'm alone in my dislike of Mr. Sparks, so I decided to take a poll. Please help me prove to Lisa that I don't need to hand over my girl card just because I don't like his books/movies.

Introducing SparrowBlu

I have the most fabulous friend named Stacie. She's one of my fun Twilight friends and I finally got to meet her in November when she came to town for the New Moon Experience. She's even more wonderful in person than she is on-line :)

She was in town as a vendor at our little New Moon event. She makes the cutest hair bows and clips. We've all been nagging her since the event to open an Etsy store and she finally has- YAY!!!! Look how cute her stuff is-

She's having a grand opening sale this week and all shipping is free so head on over to SparrowBlu NOW!!!

Just FYI- The purple one pictured above is already gone ;-)

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

A friend of mine lost a baby last week. Jocelyn returned to live with her Heavenly Father just a few days shy of her due date.  Through this experience I have been reminded of what amazing friends I have and how thankful I am for the belief in eternal families.

I have also become aware of an inspiring organization called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.  This is an organization that is made up of volunteer professional photographers that create priceless memories for the families of these sweet babies.  I can't think of a greater gift someone could give at a time like this.  I wish that my photography skills were more than just a hobby, I would love to be part of this organization.

Using your powers for good

I love it when celebrities I admire use their celebrity status to do good in this world.  Last night's Hope for Haiti Now telethon was inspiring. I just read that it was also record breaking. Donations are still being received so there isn't a total yet but MTV is reporting that they have already received over 58 million dollars.  WOW!

My favorite performances of the night were Hallelujah by Justin Timberlake and Let It Be by Jennifer Hudson.

This is completely shallow of me and so not the point of this post or the telethon but I found this picture of Ewan McGregor (swoon!) and I think that Ewan needs to teach Brad Pitt and Robert Pattinson that facial hair isn't supposed to be scary.

Tuesday, January 19

I love this picture! I'm not sure what exactly is going on but between my complete meltdown and Amanda's expression I'm guessing there was some serious drama going on.  (As serious as drama can be at that age, of course.)

Weren't we adorable?!?!

Calamity Jack Launch Party (aka Shannon Stalking take two)

My stalkerish tendencies towards Shannon Hale should come as no surprise to anyone.  I've fully admitted that I think we should be BFF's (see this post for further details) but sadly she hasn't called to see if I want to go shopping and talk about boys. *tear* I guess I will have to continue to just read her books and go to her book signings.

On Saturday I convinced a few friends to join in my Shannon stalking and attend the book launch party for her newest publication- Calamity Jack.  It's a graphic novel and is the sequel to Rapunzel's Revenge.  I'm not a big fan of the graphic novel genre but I enjoyed Rapunzel's Revenge so I knew I had to get a copy of Calamity Jack.

We were entertained in true Shannon Hale fashion. She was joined by her co-author Dean (her hubby) and the illustrator Nathan Hale (no relation) so the laughs were pretty much non-stop.

This picture gives you a pretty good indication of how the afternoon went-

It was a fabulous afternoon and Shannon was wonderful! She actually remembered me from The Actor & The Housewife signing (and not because of the restraining order) and said some really sweet things that made my inner fan girl squeal.

You can read my write up of the afternoon, which includes some great video, here and enter to win an autographed copy of the books and poster here.

Here are some random pictures that were taken while we were waiting for the line to not be so long-

The Lonely Hearts Club

The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg is a great read!
Penny is sick of boys and sick of dating. So she vows: no more. It's a personal choice. . .and, of course, soon everyone wants to know about it. And a few other girls are inspired. A movement is born: The Lonely Hearts Club (named after the band from Sgt. Pepper). Penny is suddenly known for her nondating ways . . . which is too bad, because there's this certain boy she can't help but like. . . .
These characters jump off the pages and come to life.  I think anyone that ever attended high school can relate to these characters. I know that I went to school with people just like Penny, Tracy, Diane and sadly people like Todd, Nate and Missy.

Elizabeth has taken people and situations that we all can relate to and has turned it into great story full of laughter, fun, anger, drama and love.

This book is like taking a walk down memory lane (HS was a long time ago for me, it's fun to revisit it sometimes) and it has a fantastic and important message about girl power, friendship and the importance of maintaining a sense of self no matter what your relationship status is.

I saw a lot of the camaraderie and support that we have at in The Lonely Hearts Club so it made it even more enjoyable to read.

I highly recommend The Lonely Hearts Club!

The Dark Divine

Loved this book!!
Here's my review from Good Reads-

I think that Becca Fitzpatrick’s review of The Dark Divine just about sums it up for me.

“Oh my goodness, talk about a book that had everything I wanted: a bad boy with a dark, tortured past, a complicated romance, and a mystery that made my heart beat in double-time right up to the last page. The only thing I can hold against this book is it robbed me of a night's sleep. Do I regret it? Not one bit. Darkly comic and surprising, this paranormal rises to the top.”
She hit all the high points (and the one low point, I'm so going to need a nap later today!) of this book. I can't wait for the next book in the series! I need more Grace and Daniel and even Jude ;)

I had the opportunity to attend the launch party for The Dark Divine. My write-up and pictures of the event can be found here.

The Blind Side

I laughed, I cried (a lot!) and I was inspired. What an amazing story! If you haven't seen it you need to!

I will definitely be adding this one to my collection.

Mr. M was blessed on Sunday- isn't he adorable?!?!  I love how squishy and cuddly he is. There is a slight chance that I monopolized him most of the afternoon on Sunday. I just couldn't help myself!

A walk down memory lane- 2009 in pictures

2009 was a fababulous year!

I'm so blessed with an amazing family, great co-workers, and crazy friends. This year was full of adventures and fun. I can't wait to see what 2010 has in store for me.

Here are just a few of the pictures I have from 2009. (I learned one thing about myself when I was putting this slideshow together, I take way too many pictures!)

Food for Thought Friday

How did you ring in the NEW YEAR and NEW DECADE?
Partied at Amanda and Andy’s house- we played games (Apples to Apples, Scattegories and Catch Phrase), ate yummy food and watched the ball drop at midnight.

What will you remember about 2009?
I will remember the wonderful people I have met, the laughter we shared and the fun times I had.

What are your expectations for 2010?
I’m looking forward to many new adventures. I’m hoping I will do a a better job of organizing and balancing my time so that my stress level lower.

Midnight Snack
If you could go back and change anything about 2009, what would it be and why?
I would have gone to see my Mom in while she was in Europe. I miss Europe.
